Female-founded jewellery brands to watch out for

Updated: May 5, 2022

Gone are the days when women were faced with a choice between unaffordable high-end jewellery and cheap alternatives that left tell-tale green marks on the skin (we’ve all been there!). In fact, the past few years has seen a surge in independent female jewellery-makers who are crafting unique and contemporary pieces that fall into every budget.

Here are some of our favourite female-founded jewellery brands:

Missoma was founded around the kitchen table by Marisa Hordern, her mother Michele and sister Sophie. Since then the brand has grown from strength to strength as they focus on creating the perfect demi-fine jewellery for your everyday wardrobe. The designs can either be worn as stand-alone pieces or mixed and matched for a layered look. We’re a huge fan of the round of applause necklace with all profits from sales donated to the NHS!

Diane Kordas started out by making jewellery for her friends and family before launching her own fine jewellery brand. Within months of launching, her designs were being stocked by the likes of Net-a-Porter and Dover Street Market and being worn by iconic women such as Gisele Bündchen, Cindy Crawford and Gwyneth Paltrow. Set in 18-carat gold and using diamonds and precious gemstones, Diane Kordas has become the go-to for high-end contemporary jewellery. We can’t get enough of the diamond armour ring!

Founded in 2009 by Ruth Bewsey, Daisy London has gone from a one-woman show on Portobello Road to an international cult brand. Each collection is inspired by nature, travel and adventure to form unique and charming pieces that brighten up any outfit. We love the Aphrodite Necklace which is based on the beauty of the female form. What’s more, £10 from every sale is donated to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

Ottoman Hands is a Turkish-inspired jewellery brand that was established in 2010 by Deniz Gurdal. She prides herself on working with local Turkish gem cutters and artisans to create contemporary modern pieces that draw on ancient jewellery making traditions. We’ve put the Jale Antique Gold Hoop Earrings straight on our wishlist!
