Our top pick of vegan and cruelty-free brands

Updated: May 5, 2022

In recent years we’ve seen an undeniable shift towards veganism and ethical consumerism. What was once considered an alternative lifestyle choice has now made its way into the mainstream. Never one to miss a trick, the beauty industry is already way ahead and working hard to deliver the goods.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites:

With two decades of clinical medical experience, Dr Barbara Sturm is known for translating scientific discoveries into skin and dermatology. She is also the brains behind the vampire facial which saw the likes of Kim Kardashian hooked! Her line of Molecular Cosmetics is made up of supercharged anti-ageing skincare formulas that eliminate aggressive and harmful ingredients, and are all vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.

Already a huge hit in Australia, Inika produces a range of skincare and makeup products that are completely vegan and cruelty-free. All of their ingredients are ethically sourced and rely on the power of botanics and minerals to do the hard work. They also use many indigenous Australian plant extracts, such as lilli pilli and Kakadu plum seed oils, which are known for their restorative qualities. Go nature!

Taking the beauty world by storm in 2017, The Ordinary became an overnight success by reeling in customers with clinical skincare solutions at very affordable prices. Since then, the brand has continued to develop several retinol and acid-based products, which has earned them a huge global cult following. What’s more, the entire range is vegan-friendly, gluten-free, nut-free and cruelty-free. It’s also free from parabens, sulphates and animal oils. Like many others right now, we just can’t get enough of the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution.

Using quality ingredients and steering clear from synthetics and fillers, Herbivore Botanicals focus on products to improve both your skin and wellbeing. With an array of colourful ingredients such as French pink clay and Brazilian gemstones, this is a brand who knows how to have fun while staying true to their vegan and cruelty-free roots. Plus, all of their packaging is recyclable and reusable!

Born in a creative studio in downtown New York City, Milk Makeup is an achingly hip cosmetics brand with a conscience. Cruelty-free, paraben-free, and 100% vegan, the brand creates its products with a unique blend of coconut waxes that melts onto the skin when activated by body heat, which means you can achieve that effortless glow in minutes.

Made for people with sensitive skin, Pai cuts out all the nasties and uses the highest quality ingredients to maintain the natural balance of the skin. Plus, the brand never tests on animals, only uses sustainable plant ingredients, and opts for recyclable or biodegradable packaging wherever possible. The best-selling Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil has already been a huge hit and has been hailed as the ultimate multi-tasker for sensitive skin.
